Colored pencil painting in progress of a yucca flower.

I am excited to be working on this painting because I have had it on hold for a few months. 2019 was great for me because I consistently received portrait commissions and requests for logo designs. However, month after month I found myself putting off my personal work and before I knew it, the year was gone and I hadn’t completed anything for myself.

So this year I have created a schedule to ensure I complete personal art along with commissions and design work. I have so many ideas for paintings I want to create! With that said, here is progress shot of my newest personal piece! This piece is inspired by New Mexico’s BEAUTIFUL landscape. This will be the first of many New Mexico inspired paintings. No title yet. Dimensions are 11.5″ x 17″. Medium is colored pencil and pastel.

I’m Working on a New Landscape!

Apr 5, 2019

Here are a few in-progress shots of a new piece I am working on! This artwork will be apart of my Quote Series. The dimensions of this piece are 32″ x 40″, the largest size I have worked with thus far!

I am using colored pencil and Pan Pastel to create this piece. Pan Pastel is a new medium I have been experimenting with lately. It is pastel in “pan” form that can be applied with tools. That means I don’t have to touch/ blend the pigments with my fingers! They are significantly less messy than traditional soft pastels. The pastels have allowed me to cover large areas with color in a short amount of time. I use my colored pencils to go in and build on those layers and refine details.

Stay tuned for more progress updates!
