Commissions

What does it mean to commission art?

Commissioning art is the process of requesting the creation of a specific piece for yourself or to gift to someone else. Common commission requests I receive are family portraits and landscapes.

Why commission an art piece?

Commissioning an art piece can be a very special experience. You have the opportunity to own artwork that is personal to you and created to your specifications. There’s nothing more special than having art in your home that captures the people and the places you love most.

How long do commissions take?
Commissions take at least 6 weeks from your start date on my waitlist. To view current wait times, visit my commissions page.
I would like my art done by a specific date. How far in advance should I contact you?
As far in advance as possible. As soon as you have the idea, contact me. Because I book commissions in advance, it is likely that I will not be able to begin on your art right away. There may be a waiting period. Contacting me 6+ months in advance can ensure your piece is complete by the date of your choice.
Do you draw from life or photos?

I draw from photos.

Do you ship?

Yes, I do. Currently I ship to all 50 states in the U.S.

How much is shipping for commissions?

The cost of shipping commissions starts at $15 and increases depending on artwork dimensions and your location.

I would LOVE to commission you! How do I begin the process?

Contact me on my website, by email, or via social media. Send me the image you would me to use, the size you would like your art to be, and the style you are interested in (b&w or color). If you are unsure about any of this, I can help you decide.   Once I have this info, I will tell you the price of the artwork. I will then send a link for the 50% deposit payment and I will also email you a contract to sign. Paying your deposit and signing the contract will reserve your booking and guarantee your commission.

I have 3 separate photos of 3 people that I would like a portrait of. Are you able to combine multiple photos to create one image?

Yes! Because I would be using more than one photo to draw from, there is a surcharge of $50 per each additional photo. When choosing the photos, you want to select pictures of your loved ones posed in a way that will look cohesive when placed in a group. This will help the final artwork look more natural. For example, if you would like everyone to be standing together in the photo, I will need photos of each person standing to create that look.

Do you charge by the number of people in the portrait?

No. You can include as many people in the artwork as you wish. My prices for custom art are based on art style (color or black & white) and art dimensions. Visit my commission page to view my price list for custom art.

I have paid my 50% deposit. When is the rest due?
The remaining amount is due once the art is finished and approved by you. At that time, I will send you the invoice for the remaining amount.
Is the 50% deposit refundable?
The deposit is refundable up to a certain point in the process. Your deposit is fully refundable if I have not begun any work on your art. After work has begun and I have started your initial sketches, a certain percentage of the deposit is refundable. This is based on the number of hours I have spent thus far. Once you have approved the initial sketch and I have begun the final artwork, the deposit is no longer refundable.
What is the return and refund policy for commissions?

Due to the custom nature of commissions, commissions are not refundable.

For more details visit myRefund and Returns Policy page.

If I commission a piece, do I own the copyright for the artwork?
You would own the physical piece, but not the copyright. Meaning, you are not allowed to sale or reproduce the image by any means. As the artist, I retain the copyright.
Will I be updated during the process?
Yes! I will send you photo updates of the work via email or text throughout the entire process.

Framing

I ordered an art piece! Will you frame it?
No, I do not offer framing services at this time.
